Alumni Aces, Citizenship & Scholarship Recipients

Current and Past Citizenship & Scholarship Recipients

The Herbert H. Carnegie Future Aces Foundation

has awarded over $400,000 in scholarships since 1988. We congratulate the recipients for 2007. Our selection committee had an even greater challenge this year as the number of exceptional applicants climbed considerably.

Gradually we will add past recipients' names to our site. Watch for them!

Comments about the 2007 Scholarship Reception:

Bernice

Just wanted to let you know how impressed I was with the scholarship reception last week. I had some time to think about what I like. Well here goes:

  • The evening made every recipient feel so special with the slideshow of their accomplishments. For them it was a night they will never forget.

  • The presentation of the certificates on stage with your Dad (Herb Carnegie) was so grand.

  • Your sister's (Rochelle Carnegie) words were touching.

  • The co-hosting was so warm and welcoming

  • The families in the audience were so proud.

All in all it was a gift for everyone to see these future stars launched. Congratulations to all involved.

To Ms. Bernice Carnegie:

I am writing to you to express my sincere thanks upon receiving the Herbert H. Carnegie Foundation¡¯s Citizenship Award. I will be using the funds to attend The University of Guelph's Arts and Science Program in the fall.

Thank-you so much for all of your hard-work on Friday and in the past few decades to empower youth. I had a wonderful time at the scholarship reception and met so many fun and interesting people. I was fortunate to have been chosen to participate in this program. Hearing yourself and your father speak was truly inspirational and makes me feel unstoppable.

I look forward to speaking to you again in the future.

Smiles

Bernice: Thank you so much for taking such good care of Danielle Holtjer, and her brother, Jason. She said your family was a sweet and loving family.

Your Dad made an impression on her. What a wonderful opportunity it was for them, they met all kinds of interesting people. The reception/ food, speeches were all very impressive. Thank you so much for all your trouble and work. It will be a life-time memory for herself. She will write you once she gets caught up on her school work. Thank you and your family for everything,

~ Judy Holtjer

D. Antoinette Kirwan, a 1997 scholarship recipient writes:

¡°With financial assistance from the Herbert H. Carnegie Future Aces Foundation, I was able to attend the Schulich School of Business at York University . I earned an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 2001 and went on to the Howard University School of Law in Washington , DC . I graduated from Howard Law in 2004 after earning my Juris Doctorate degree, and am currently practicing at The Legal Aid Society in New York City Juvenile Rights Division, representing children in Family Court.

Being selected to receive the Future Aces Scholarship was tremendous! And as a recipient, I feel it is my duty to assist in furthering the ideals of the Foundation. As an attorney for young people, giving back to the communities that I serve is a great joy for me. Nurturing my clients¡¯ sense of respect for self and others is part of my practice that relates to and encompasses the spirit of the Creed. I am very grateful that I was introduced to the Herbert H. Carnegie Future Aces Foundation! My successes are the Foundation¡¯s successes! Many thanks!¡±

EDONA CAKU, a 2003 scholarship recipient, is determined to enrich the shelves of the library in her home town of Shkoder, Albania. She lived in Albania during the civil war in 1997 and witnessed the destruction of many buildings, including the library. She swore, as she left Albania in 2000, that she would help her compatriots.
